How to Replace Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 parts

Note: Replacing your device components can void your warranty. If you're not confident in your ability to safely and accurately replace the faulty part, consider asking a professional for help.

    Replacing the Battery

Follow these steps to replace the battery:

    • Power off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
    • Open the laptop and begin prying the keyboard area. It's glued down, so use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive.
    • With the aid of a spudger or a similar tool, gently lift the keyboard section. Be mindful of the ribbon cables underneath.
    • Disconnect the ribbon cables from the motherboard by flipping up the small retaining flap and then pull the cables out.
    • Remove the screws that secure the battery which can be found around its edges.
    • Once the screws are removed, you should be able to lift the battery out of its compartment.
    • Place the new battery in the laptop and secure it with the screws.
    • Reconnect the ribbon cables and then reapply the keyboard area.

    Replacing the Screen

Follow these steps to replace the screen:

    • Power off your laptop and disconnect it from the power source.
    • To avoid damage, place the Surface Laptop on a soft, clean surface.
    • Start at a corner and begin prying the screen from the frame using a plastic opening tool.
    • Once the screen has been detached, be cautious of the screen data cable underneath.
    • Unclip the screen data cable from the motherboard and then remove the screen.
    • Reconnect the new screen to the motherboard, and then reapply it to the frame.
