Before beginning the replacement process, gather the necessary tools: a Phillips #00 Screwdriver, plastic opening tool, tweezers, and a new PS Vita system.
Start by making sure your PS Vita is turned off completely. Use the plastic opening tool to pry off the back cover gently. Then, remove the screws holding the battery in place with your Phillips#00 screwdriver and set the screws aside. Carefully lift the battery out and disconnect it from the system.
Using the plastic opening tool, lever up the tabs on each side of the device to free the front screen section from the back section. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cables connecting the two sections.
Open your new PS Vita and connect the ribbon cables from the screen section to the back section. Make sure they are securely in place. Then align the tabs on the sides and snap the front and back sections together.
Connect the new battery to the system and place it correctly in its housing. Replace the screws securely. Finally, snap the back cover into place.
Power on your new PS Vita and follow on-screen prompts to set up the system.
